Modular Synth Simulation

I’m trying to design a cabinet for my soon-to-be modular synth. Everyone tells me to plan for a bigger system than I think. I’ve read a lot of stories of people who build a box and outgrow it within a few months, and have to build another to stack on top. Since I’m planning to […]

Working Moog

Well, I cracked the Voyager open and fixed the LED because it was pissing me off. Now that it’s 100% working, I really enjoy the synth. It’s a very flexible synth too. Once I got past the lovely lead and bass sounds, I started playing with audio frequency FM of OSC 1 and the Filters, […]

Synth Noises

I soldered together a few LFOs (low frequency oscillators) for the synth tonight. To celebrate, and since the wife is out of town, I decided to make a bunch of noise with the synthesizer and call it an aleotoric composition. Oh, the setup is that you’re in a dark, scary cave. Scary Cave

Modular is making noise!

The MOTM modular synth is finally passing audio! I’ve successfully built five modules and now have a synth voice. There’s an oscillator that feeds into a filter which feeds into an amplifier. Two envelopes allow me to alter the brightness or volume over time. The sound is unbelievable! I thought I had some synths with […]

More soldering

Well, I added some “improvements” to the mic pre a few weeks ago and broke it. I’ll have to figure out what went wrong when I have some free time. In the mean time though, I started assembling my first modules for the new synth! It’s so much nicer working with a real circuit board […]

Modular Maybe Not

I think I’ve decided against building the modular synth. I started tallying up the number of modules I would want, and the cost started to look pretty scary. If I think of the synth as a tool to create music, I could better spend that money on things that would be more musical. I’m going […]
