My Composer’s Desk

My epic desk project is finally complete. It came out pretty much the way I wanted it to, so I guess that’s a sucessful build. There are a few compromises in the design, and a few small screw-ups that no one else will ever see, but overall I’m very pleased with the result. I haven’t seen its equal in the studios I’ve visited either in person or on the web. If anyone wants the design plans, send me an email or leave a comment.

Very pro. I like it. Two questions:

    1) Does it come apart easily for future transport?
    2) Where do you put your sheet music? 🙂

Thanks. Yes, it comes apart. I ended up using T-nuts, which are machined screw holes that hammer into the wood. Sheet music goes over the keyboard for now, but one day I want to build something to prop it up.

Plus, 99% of the time you don’t use sheet music. I’m the one who needs actual notes in front of me to play anything…

Very nice desk, though I was wondering if you have a decent write up on how you went about creating this. I’ve yet to ever find something that works for me better than and old kitchen table I used to use in my warehouse.

    Hi Jeff,

Your desk looks classy & beautiful. I’m wondering what the height is from the floor to the midi controller’s ledge. Also what is the height of the table where your computer keyboard is placed? I’m in the process of building my own similar workstation but find that there’s a bit of compromising involved with deciding the height. If the computer keyboard is at a comfortable height, the controller will bump my knees whereas if I make the controller high enough, then the computer keyboard & mouse are up too high.
    I’d appreciate your advice!

Wow, this is exactly what I’ve been looking for! Please, please, please, let me, let me, let me, let me get………the plans to that desk! Great website by the way. I agree with the Wavestation, it was and still is my all time favorite synth and I regret ever having sold it.
