I was dorking around with the synths yesterday and came up with this. It’s actually a lot harder to write electronica than it sounds. It’s easy to throw a drum loop and a synth part up, but that gets old after 15 seconds. Then you need to change something, add a bit to fill in the hole where you get bored, keep moving things around to keep interest going. I think this is the best I’ve done in this genre — it’s the first electronica piece that doesn’t bore me to tears after a few listens, and it sounds like the genre, not the 1980s like most of my stuff. I think it sounds a bit like Paul Oakenfold, if I may be so bold.
The toughest thing about writing little ditties like this is coming up with a name, especially when I’m just forming the first bits of it. It’s not like I’m writing a meaningful song about my childhood love or something, I was just dorking around with randomly-triggered arpeggiators triggering a pulse wave and it sounded cool. So I titled it with the first word that popped into my head when I hit Command-S, related to the arpeggiated figure bopping around I guess.
